Concussion Management

Concussions are serious head injuries that occur after a direct blow to the head or a whiplash injury to the neck. Symptoms may not be present for 72 hours.

It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion for urgent evaluation and treatment. Symptoms that may occur include:

Thinking and Remembering

  • Not thinking clearly
  • Feeling slowed down
  • Not being able to concentrate
  • Not being able to remember new information

Physical

  • Headache and Nausea
  • Fuzzy or blurry vision
  • Dizziness
  • Sensitivity to light or noise
  • Balance problems
  • Feeling tired or having no energy

Emotional and Mood

  • Easily upset or angered
  • Sad
  • Nervous or anxious
  • More emotional

Sleep

  • Sleeping more than usual
  • Sleeping less than usual
  • Having a hard time falling asleep
